A cultivar is a version of a plant species that is not genetically different enough to be a separate species. Clear as mud? Yeah.
Let's say you have four apple trees in your orchard. You don't want the same kind of apples - that would be boring. So, you have a Braeburn, a Honeycrisp, a Delicious Red, and a Crispin. These are all apple trees, but they are four different Cultivars.
(btw, there are over 7500 different cultivars of apple trees)
